Bay of Pigs 50 event with Comandante Victor Dreke Cruz, 12th April


To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cuban victory against the US-backed invasion at Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs) this April, the Cuba Solidarity Campaign are hosting a special website, organising a free public meeting, and sharing pictures and resources.

MPs turn out to support Cuba

Around 100 MPs, trade union leaders and friends gathered at the House of Commons on Wednesday 23 March to support better UK-Cuba relations while at the same time welcoming the new Cuban Ambassador HE Esther Armenteros to parliament.

Alberto Granado's message to the Cuba Solidarity Campaign


In 2008, CSC's CubaSi magazine carried an exclusive interview with Alberto Grenado, where he talked about his trip with Che Guevara and recorded this message of greetings and and thanks to the members of CSC in the UK for their work in solidarity with Cuba. Alberto was Che's friend from university, and travelling companion on his motorcycle trip around Latin America. He died peacefully of natural causes in Cuba aged 88 in March 2011.

Talking about a Revolution

In celebration of the centenary of International Women's Day, we have re-published an interivew with Carolina Amador Pérez from the the Federation of Cuban Women’s (FMC) and Gilda Chacón Bravo from the CTC (Cuban Trade Union Central) which took place in April 2009.


Carolina Amador and Gilda Chacón, leading members of the Cuban women’s and trade union movement spoke to CSC’s Lotte Deckers Dowber on their nationwide tour. The tour was made possible through support from Unison’s General Political Fund offered Chance to build new links between the FMC and UK institutions and bring the agenda of women’s rights in the UK and Cuba to the fore.

Alberto Granado dies in Cuba

Alberto Granado, Che's friend from university, and travelling companion on his motorcycle trip around Latin America, has died peacefully of natural causes in Cuba aged 88.
Alberto was an advisor to the 2004, Walter Sallas film about the trip which stared Gael Garcia Bernal, and Alberto also appears at the end of the film. He also wrote his own book about the journey, Travelling with Che, which gives his view of the adverture and political awakening of the two young Argentinians.

The Empire's Pawns

An explosive new documentary – The Empire’s Pawns – aired on Cuban TV on 26 February 2011. It tells the story of two Cuban security agents who infiltrated the so-called “dissident” movement and exposed the extent of subversive efforts against the Cuban revolution financed from the US and Europe.

For 10 years, Carlos Serpa Maceira was considered the spokesperson for the damas de blanco (Ladies in White) and an “independent” journalist, while Moisés Rodriguez spent 20 years working undercover with counter revolutionary groups.

CSC reject media attempts to slander Cuba over statements on Libya

The media coverage of the Libyan conflict in relation to Cuba is at best confused and at worst purposefully biased. Castro – who neither explicitly nor implicitly implied support for Gaddafi – has been tacitly equated to the Libyan leader in media discourse and this represents irresponsible and subjective reporting.
